GPS Luncheon, Thursday December 8th 11:30am

Join us on Thursday, December 8, at 11:30 a.m., at the Garden Grove Elks Lodge located at 11551 Trask Avenue, Garden Grove, CA 92843.  The subject of the presentation is “Discovery Crash Test Demo, 2012— Navy “Point Mugu Expertise in Action”.

Test Pilot and current ANA Wings of Gold Editor Captain David M. Kennedy, USN (Retired) will provide a presentation regarding an innovative and successful experimental flight test project, engineered and conducted by a test team which included full-scale aerial target (FSAT) remote-control operations experts from Point Mugu, for a USA Discovery Channel / UK Ch 4 / Germany Pro Seiben documentary special in 2012.    In this test, a Boeing 727 was modified to allow for unmanned flight under remote control by a chase aircraft, and was flown to a mission-relatable controlled crash in the Mexican desert to test installed restraint, emergency system, and scientific experiments onboard.  The test was also meant to provide proof of concept for live crash safety demonstrations similar to proven automotive (AHSI) and DoD live-fire models, and was the first full-scale controlled crash of a passenger airplane since NASA’s conduct of a similar full-scale crash test using a Boeing 720 in 1984.

You will order meals from the regular Elk’s menu.

Please contact Tim Brown at (562)287-4846 or timb53@hotmail.com to make reservations.  We need to know by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the day before our lunch, whether you are going to attend so that we may inform service staff for set up.

The Elks Lodge has a “no mask” policy right now.

We look forward to seeing as many members and old friends as possible.

Please let me know whether you intend to attend so we have the right number of place settings.
