Sailor of the Quarter, September 2014
On August 14, 2014, at the regular monthly meeting of the Grampaw Pettibone Squadron we were honored to have four of the eight Sailors of the Quarter from Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach present to be honored by GPS. As each of their names was announced by Jeff Reeder ADCS(AW), the senior Non Commissioned Officer at NWSSB, the honorees received gifts from local restaurants: Beachwood BBQ, O’Malleys on Main, Hennessey’s Tavern, The Hangout Restaurant and Athens West. Special gifts were made by Fresh N Easy Seal Beach and The Crab Cooker in Tustin. Mr. Eric W. Page, FORCM, USN(Ret), Military Affairs Representative for United Services Automobile Association(USAA), presented each SOQ with a commemorative plaque from USAA. The SOQs also received a one-year membership in either the Association of Naval Aviation, the Association of the U.S. Navy, or U.S. Naval Institute from GPS.
The unit and name of each SOQ is as follows: NOSC LA : SSOQ- NC1(AW) Sarah Bailey and JSOQ- PS2(AW) Adrian Baker; NWSSB: SSOQ- MA1 (EXW/SW) Virgil M. Ignacio and JSOQ- MA2 Brandon M. McKnight; and NMC: SSOQ: LS1(SW/AW) Robert M. Walker and JSOQ- MN2 Tyler W. Schwartzybarra. Neither Brandon McKnight nor Robert W. Walker was able to attend.
Also attending was the Executive Officer of NWSSB, CDR Paul Werring who later in the program briefed the group on operations at NWSSB.
