Join us on Thursday, November 10, the day before Veterans Day, at 11:30 a.m., at the Garden Grove Elks Lodge located at 11551 Trask Avenue, Garden Grove, CA 92843. The subject of the presentation will be different in many ways, as will be the presenter.
Our speaker will be Chief Warrant Officer 5 John M. Harris, USA (Ret.) John holds several unique historical distinctions. In addition to being one of the last Vietnam veterans to continue serving in uniform, he was also the last Army reservist to be voluntarily mobilized and deployed to Vietnam, and was among the last 500 Americans to leave the country, on Mar. 28, 1973. A UH-1 Huey helicopter pilot for over 40 years, he served from 1969 to 2013. However, his aviation experience is not what John is going to cover at our meeting. Rather, John is going to tell us all about his time as member of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC), starting at age 14! He spent three years as a Sea Cadet (age14-16). During that time, an active-duty diesel sub from San Diego would come up to Long Beach several times per year and embark both the USNR & USNSCC trainees for underway, submerged, weekend training. He is going to tell us about those experiences and a few others that you might not believe! You can see more of John’s bio at https://army.togetherweserved.com/army/servlet/tws.webapp.WebApp?cmd=ShadowBoxReflectionProfile&type=Person&ID=243670.
You will order meals from the regular Elk’s menu. Please contact Tim Brown at (562)287-4846 or email@example.com to make reservations. We need to know by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the day before our lunch, whether you are going to attend so that we may inform service staff for set up.
The Elks Lodge has a “no mask” policy right now.
We look forward to seeing as many members and old friends as possible.
Please let me know whether you intend to attend so we have the right number of place settings.
