CDR Christopher “Hewy” Hewlett is a native of Los Angeles California, but spent his formative years of high school and college in Arizona. In May of 1995, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona and was commissioned through the University’s Naval ROTC
After receiving his Wings and completion of the FRS syllabus he was assigned to his first Fleet Squadron, the “Proud Warriors” of HSL-42. While there, CDR Hewlett deployed multiple times and served as the squadron’s Assistant Operations Officer.
CDR Hewlett’s first shore duty assignment was as an East Coast FRS instructor from 2002 to of 2004. During his tenure with the “Air Wolves” of HSL-40 he served in multiple billets and graduated from Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor (SWTI) School.
In 2004, CDR Hewlett joined the “Swamp Foxes” of HSL-44 as the squadron SWTI. During his tour at HSL-44, CDR Hewlett embarked in CVN-71 with Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group as Air Wing EIGHT Helicopter Element Coordinator.
In 2006, CDR Hewlett was assigned to the “Vipers” of HSL-48 for his Department Head OIC tour. He served as the Squadron Training Officer, OIC of Detachment ONE and as the Squadron Maintenance Officer.
CDR Hewlett attended the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico Va. and upon graduation, served as an action officer on the Joint Staff in the J-5, Asia Division. CDR Hewlett is currently in command of “The Magicians” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron THREE FIVE (HSM-35).
His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Medals Awarded for single action, two Navy Commendation Medals and four Navy Achievement Medals. He is very happily married to Kristen Carmichael of Cheyenne, Wyoming and is the proud father of two handsome boys, Connor, ten and Chase, eight.
