I know that is a funny/odd title for a column. I am asking you to help out some old friends. I am asking you to financially assist local restaurants that have donated gift certificates/coupons for years to help make our Sailors of the Quarter programs (“SOQ”) a thing that you can be proud of as a member of Grampaw Pettibone Squadron (“GPS”). At this time those same restaurants are having a tough time. They have laid off employees and are in danger of closing. We (you) can help by ordering take out from them. Luckily, they are all good restaurants with excellent food in my opinion.

If you do not wish to take a chance by going out in public at this time, there are options. You can donate $25, the cost of your Elks Club lunch and drink, to our treasurer, Joy LeCompte at 3272 Rowena Drive in Los Alamitos, CA 90720. You can send more, but please note on the memo line that the money is to be used for “SOQ Restaurants”.
Here are the ways that you can help:
- Support the restaurants by take-out orders from any of the restaurants on the attached list; or
- Email or call the restaurants and buy one or more $25 gift certificates which will be donated to the SOQ; or
- Send a check for $25, or more, to our Treasurer and we will arrange to buy the gift certificates from our restaurant partners.
Although it appears that we will not have meetings in April or May, we will get the gift certificates and other awards to the SOQ even if we have to drop the packages at the Main Gate. The next SOQ meeting is scheduled for May.
